The Fifth Pan-European Orthodox Liturgical Music Conference
"Beauty in Divine Services:
the Practice of Choral Singing"
(celebrating the anniversaries of A.A. Arkhangelsky and A.V. Nikolsky)
held in London 25-28 January 2024
Based at The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God
and the Holy Royal Martyrs
We are pleased to announce that despite the difficult situation in the world, the Committee continues its work and plans to hold the fifth Pan-European Orthodox Music Conference in London from 25 to 28 January 2024! We invite you to take part in this event!
The conference will feature lectures by renowned international specialists in the field of choral singing and church-musicianship, workshops and group discussions. This year the Conference is dedicated to A.A. Arkhangelsky and A.V. Nikolsky whose anniversaries we celebrate in 2024. The repertoire of services will include some of the works by these composers.
This year we plan to make the Conference a little more practically oriented. You will have the opportunity to try yourself as a conductor of a large choir and receive valuable comments from leading experts in this field. In addition, we will talk about the aesthetics and beauty of the Orthodox service. There will also be special classes for readers, in which you can also take part.
The conference welcomes church choir conductors, singers, readers, and all others interested in Russian Orthodox choral music.
The working language of the conference will be Russian, with synchronous translation into English available if required.
The cost of participation is £320 (EUR 370). If you are unable to join the conference for all 4 days, you are welcome to attend any portion of it that you wish (see the registration form for more details).
The cost includes:
-
participation in all lectures, roundtables, rehearsals, seminars and workshops;
-
all conference materials, including music for Vigil and Divine Liturgy;
-
all lunches and dinners (with the exception of dinner on Friday, at which time participants are given free time for independent tours of the city and other leisure activities);
-
concluding banquet.
In addition we are pleased to offer a discounted rate at a hotel nearby. The cost for a shared twin room is £70 per person per night with breakfast included. The option to book a single room is also available.
Arrival at the hotel and check-in is planned on January 24. Registration for the conference will take place at the Cathedral's church hall on the 25th of January at 9:30 am. The conference will commence by moleben at 10 am (GMT).
We recommend that you book return tickets for as late as possible on Sunday, January 28, in order not to miss the concluding banquet and allow enough time for airport transfer/security lines.
We look forward to seeing you at the Conference!
